Two Ph.D. positions are immediate available at the Manufacturing,
Material, and Quality Research Center at Wayne State University. The
center established in response to a recognized national need to
improve the new generation manufacturing process and and streamline
the process of translating research results into industrial
innovations and applications. The research topics include new material
design, manufacturing system development, monitoring, and diagnosis,
engineering statistics, reliability and quality improvement.
Opening directions: (1) System monitoring, diagnosis, and control. The
research aims at studying
sensor-based prognostics and degradation modeling, quality and
reliability engineering, and maintenance operations and logistics (2)
Material, forming and manufacturing for the third generation of advanced
high strength steel.
Wayne State University is located at the industrial center of the
United States. Research of the center is now supported by both
National agencies (e.g., National Science Foundation, Department of
Energy, United States Council for Automotive Research, Natural
Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada) and Industrial
Partners (e.g., Chrysler Corporation, Ford Motor Company, General Motors).
The center has very close and substantial research collaboration
with auto and manufacturing industries.
Applicants with strong engineering and math backgrounds will be encouraged
to apply. Students
with relevant research experience in reliability and quality, material
and forming, math and statistics, and automatic control will be
given favorable consideration.
Perspective applicants who are interested in the positions are encouraged
